Past and Future Poundcakes
Past and Future Poundcake
Poundcake is one of the oldest cakes on record. Its name referring to its traditionally straight-forward recipe of a pound each of sugar, flour, butter, eggs, poundcake takes on a wide variety of iterations around the world, across generations.
We imagine a tabletop garden in which contemporary poundcake is grown from the seeds of the poundcake of our past. Likewise, future poundcake is forecasted, reaching back and forth through time, using 4" bundts as our guide.
Performed at Goethe-Institut Boston, accompanying Erin Woodbrey's exhibition "Gardeners for a Geological Afterlife", 2024
Performed by Sarah K Williams, Erin Woodbrey and Ash Williams
